We'd like to clear the air about candles
This is the perfect time of year to make your home extra cozy with candle light. As the nights get longer and colder, candles can help keep your spirits bright and keep your home a sanctuary of calm. But as much as we love to buy and burn candles at home it's important to consider what those candles are doing to the air we breath.
Be sure to stay away from paraffin candles which are made from petroleum and release harmful toxins into the air we breathe. Luckily, most of the candles you'll find at the market these days are made with stearin which burns cleaner and can be derived from either animal or vegetable fats. Our favorite, clean-burning candles are made from soy, rapeseed, beeswax, and coconut wax. Soy candles are wonderful, but you may also want to consider where the soy comes from. Soybeans are a booming crop globally, and especially in the US, but they are notorious in that a huge proportion of the crops are GMO varieties. Soy candles are still a great option, and we love our EYM candles that use only natural soy, cotton wicks, and essential oils for the amazing scents.
We're especially excited to use more beeswax candles throughout this coming winter. The Apis Cera candles are gorgeous and are such a pleasure to burn. The Lucienne candles are 100% beeswax and rolled by hand just like the old days. It's such a great way to be in harmony with nature while creating a relaxing atmosphere at home.
There is something very special about seeing the flicker of candlelight coming from the windows of Copenhagen to brighten the long, dark winter nights. We hope this inspires you to choose your candles wisely to illuminate many cherished moments with loved ones this winter.
