How to have a merry and sustainable Christmas
We had a visitor in the shop the other day that was looking for gifts to have a "Sustainable Christmas" this year. We love it! Such a great idea. At our house, and in the shop here at Rikiki, we always have sustainability in mind and it's so exciting to hear someone who is embracing the importance of conscious consumption and sharing it with their family and friends. There is so much each of us can do to make the world we all share cleaner, healthier, and more enjoyable today and for all the tomorrows to come.
How can you have a sustainable Christmas?
We think the easiest way to be more sustainable is to buy less. Really think about each purchase you make—will it be loved and used for a long time, or will it end up in the trash after one month.
For the things you do decide to buy, consider what they're made of and where they come from. Think of all the energy that goes into the production, packaging, and transport. Do they use recycled or organic materials? Can it be recycled or passed on after you're done with it? Is it made locally?
Don't forget that you can be creative and have lots of fun by making your own gifts for the family out of materials you find around the house. No need to buy anything new—and you will end up with one-of-a-kind presents.
